A ballpark over one hundred years old, still haunted by the memories of former players. How many men have stepped up to home plate in all the past century?

Fantastic history! I can feel your love for baseball and football! There are so many incredible stories in history about sports. Can't believe there was a diamond in the middle of a horse-track! I loved growing up in America with these sports! John Elway was our quarterback at my high school and I just thought that was normal? ha ha.
Also if you look at the basketball video, he is the only one not in uniform, number 10and in the football video he is number 33. The comments from you and others and the comments in Substack have moved me in a way I cannot describe. There is a real community here of readers and writers who appreciate the craft. That is what made me feel safe in sharing this with you and others.
Dear Rainey, yes! I love the history you write about. It’s beautiful to write our history. This community is very special. The key is not to lose each other while the powers that be keep changing and tweaking algorithms. I’m going to make a hand written list of my subscriptions/friends - so I can see it without referring digitally. It’s easier. I hope you have a blessed weekend, while we remember our ancestors and those who sacrificed so much. ox
I looked at the link to the movie and the trailer itself nearly made me cry. I have been writing about John Baptist Bauer. Well, there is a link between him and the sports history. If you look at the pictures in this article and in the video, Berwind Park: The Movie, you will see a boy standing with the rest of them holding a small trophy. He is number 2, and he is John Baptist Bauer 3x great grandson. He graduates from high school on May 31st. He is also number 2 in the movie, wearing red, playing with the local American Legion team. It is a silent nod, a salute if you will to the family line. No, he doesn’t know about this Substack or the history. The US Army men on camels and a part of my logo is a salute to the Gausman family. It is one small way to say “Thank You.”
It is a really good movie! The fact it’s a true story makes you cry. It teaches us about “great” faith - from a preacher father who’s faith in his son seemed so small.
…and how incredible you are writing the John Baptist Bauer history while observing his 3x !!! great grandson in the movie you showed! Maybe he should know about your writings and interest in his history, your town’s history. It’s so cool! ox
I'm not even a baseball fan, to be honest, but this is just splendid. I can feel the ooze of history in the place. Thank you for sharing.

We just watched The Hill, a few weeks ago. Have you seen it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDhQkPwjBVM - true story.
